This document proposes a major reform in the teaching of mathematics in India. It argues that the current teaching methods are not only ineffective, but also counter-productive and harmful. In short, this document narrates why there should be a complete U-Turn from what is being currently taught to students in Class 10 maths classes. This brief blog post will discuss the ideas presented by this report and a few thoughts on how they can be implemented into one's own classroom or school. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this article and/or any additional comments you might have about it. Feedback would be appreciated. One argument against this reform is that it will disrupt the balance of mathematics in schools. This balance, however, is already being disrupted by the current curriculum which has been described as a 'jumble of practice'. In addition, many argue that revising the current curriculum will result in students not knowing the right ways to do something before they actually learn it. Another argument against this reform is that changing the curriculum will only lead to a chaotic system. It has been argued by some scholars that a standardised teaching of maths does not necessarily translate to a wide spread knowledge on the subject. In this they have a point that the right way of teaching maths is not the only way of learning maths. The current curriculum does not allow for teachers to have individualised classes, which may be a good thing for students, however there would be no harm in implementing a few features from Martin Martin's proposal in classrooms or schools. Non-CSIR School Mathematics Project (Non CSIR) was started with an aim to reforming the current school curriculum and introducing new additions into it. One such addition is the proposed reform in teaching mathematics in class 10. However Non CSIR has been criticised from many sources, including the following: Some of the critiques against this proposal can be seen in the following points: The proposal in Class 10 Maths was made by a group of scientists and academics. The following is a summary of this reform proposal: This document proposes a major reform in the teaching of mathematics in India. We developed a website called 'Mathseeds' which tries to categorise these questions into a few broad areas: This is a great resource for teachers who want to teach problem solving without resorting to formulas and calculators. Teachers can make use of these frequently asked questions to make their lessons more interesting and engaging for students. cfa1e77820
